THE STORY

CAFE JOHN is the artistic identity of Can Ferhat Caferoğlu, a Toronto-based DJ, music producer, event promoter, founder and business owner whose musical journey began in Türkiye in 2005.

For CAFE JOHN, music has never been simply about playing tracks. It is about reading a room, feeling its energy and creating unforgettable moments when people lose themselves in the rhythm.

The foundation of this approach lies in his university studies in Tourism and Hotel Management and his years working in hotel entertainment departments, where he continued working until 2021. While developing his DJ career, which began in 2005, he took on responsibilities ranging from DJ performances and preparing stages for shows to installing sound and lighting systems and running entertainment programmes. He built his technical and creative experience through hands-on work, both onstage and behind the scenes, long before founding his own businesses.

Hotels were also his education in people. Welcoming guests from different countries, observing their reactions and creating enjoyable experiences for people with different expectations shaped his ability to read a crowd, build an atmosphere and guide the flow of a night. He learned to recognize the small details that turn an ordinary gathering into a memorable one. That sensitivity continues to shape his approach to music: the first person through the door matters just as much as the crowd at the height of the night.

In 2018, he founded Canco Events, bringing the sound, lighting, production and organizational experience he had gained in hospitality and entertainment into his own events. In 2020, he founded natureBEAT, a creative platform inspired by nature, sound and human connection. Today, natureBEAT continues to bring artists and audiences together through shared experiences while creating opportunities for collaboration and supporting emerging DJs and producers.

His technical background has also shaped the way he thinks as an artist. He considers a venue’s acoustics, sound system, lighting, stage design, artist preparation and event flow as an interconnected whole. Each element contributes to the audience’s experience. natureBEAT provides a creative space where he brings this knowledge together with the rhythms of nature and the character of different settings.

Since moving to Toronto in 2024, he has established himself within the city’s electronic music scene as both a DJ and an event organizer. He has performed at renowned clubs including DPRTMNT, REBEL, Wiggle Room, NOMAD and hosting his own natureBEAT special events; having previously hosted Friday nights at Comfort Zone through natureBEAT. Combining his experience behind the decks with event production and community building, he continues to develop his distinctive sound across indie dance, hypnotic groove and indie tech while producing original music.

His approach to DJing is grounded in musical curiosity, clean transitions and an instinct for sustaining momentum. He wants people to feel fully present, step away from everyday pressures and discover something new in the groove. Producing his own music is another expression of that approach, translating the energy he has learned to read in a room into original tracks.

On November 14, 2026, he is organizing and promoting DAS IST BERLIN, a natureBEAT electronic music experience featuring international headliners SPADA and GIORGIO STEFANO. The event reflects his approach to bringing music, production, atmosphere and people together through a carefully designed experience.

DAS IST BERLIN also reveals the organizer behind the performer: someone who considers the lineup alongside sound, lighting, the atmosphere of the space, artist relationships and the feelings guests take home. For him, a successful event gives people a reason to remember the night and return.

His next venture, CAFE JOHN Toronto Inc., aims to bring his music and hospitality experience together in a new setting. Planned to open in December 2026, his downtown Toronto café is being developed as a space where people can gather, discover and feel a sense of belonging, while supporting music, DJs and cultural connection. The opening schedule remains subject to final business and venue arrangements.

Beyond his performances and business ventures, CAFE JOHN is defined by his belief that music is something to share, not possess. He supports emerging DJs, respects those who came before him and believes experienced artists have a responsibility to help new talent learn, develop and find their own voice.

His commitment to younger DJs is personal. He believes music culture is passed on through listening, observation, respect and opportunities to work alongside experienced artists. He sees mentorship as an important part of an artist’s contribution to that culture. For him, an artist’s value is measured both by the crowds they move and by the talent they help develop and what they leave for those who follow.

His ambition is to take the spirit of natureBEAT to international stages while continuing to create meaningful experiences that bring people together. As he puts it, “Music created my life.” His purpose now is to share that happiness, inspire the next generation and give something lasting back to the music culture that shaped him.
